Newport Harbor Boat Tour - America's CupNewport is known as a sailing town and a location for the America's Cup yacht races. Many of the boats from previous races are in the water and some provide charters.
Pictured above are the Intrepid and Freedom, two America's Cup Yachts. The people of Newport are proud of their part in this prestigious race naming the main boulevard by the harbor after the America's Cup. There are several museums dedicated to the Cup and an America's Cup Inn. The race itself dates back to 1851. There isn't a specific schedule, but rather the races are a result of challenges to the yacht club holding the cup. Newport Rhode Island hosted 12 America's Cup races from 1930 to 1983. This was due to the cup being held by the New York Yacht Club which is based in New York City and Newport.
