Cliff WalkCliff Walk is a three and a half mile trail with the ocean on one side and the Mansions of Newport on the other. It runs from Memorial Boulevard to Belmont Avenue. There are a limited number of access points. Parking is extremely difficult at Memorial Boulevard as there are a limited number of spots. You can find parking if you are early enough at Narragansett Avenue. There you will also find porta-potties.
The southern end of Cliff Walk is near the famous Breakers, a mansion once owned by the Vanderbilts. The section pictured above is very close to the water and walkers are sometimes showered by spray from the waves breaking on the rocks below. The photograph above is near the southern most end of cliff walk. The gated you see at the top were part of the Breakers Estate. This is a wetter part of the trail as the waves are breaking on the rocks directly below you. Caution is required with children in this area as you can see some areas where there is no fencing. A little further south is Bailey's Beach which is an very exclusive private beach frequented by some of the wealthiest of Newport's families. Also nearby is a beach know as 'Rejects beach' which is not exclusive. The scene above is at the southern end of Cliff Walk with the waves breaking over the rocks and on the seawall. |
