Museums and Historical Sites in Newport Rhode Island
One could easily spend a week visiting the various museums and historical sites in Newport - In addition to the time required to visit the mansions. It is a very old town with a great deal of history. If you are going to visit during the off-season, keep in mind that some of the museums are open seasonally and close for part of the winter.

Fort Adams Fort Adams is located in the Fort Adams Point State Park overlooking Newport Harbor. The fort dates from 1824. The fort is a great example of military engineering. There are a number of events held during the year on the park grounds. It is one of the sites you will see when taking a tour of Newport Harbor |
 IYRS The International Yacht Restoration School is preserving wooden boats of all types. You can visit their shop and view the restoration work in process from a catwalk above the shop floor. |
Museum of Newport History The Museum's collections document Newport and it's seafaring heritage. They have an extensive library and offer a pass which will provide admission to a number of museums in the immediate area. |
| Museum of Yachting Museum of Yachting 25 Mill St, Newport, RI The museum is dedicated to preserving our Yachting Heritage. Exhibits include America's Cup memorabilia and some of the Yachts, Model Yachts, and a display commemorating single handed sailors including Joshua Slocum. |

 Trinity Episcopal Church1 Queen Anne sq, Newport, R This historic church is one of the more striking and beautiful buildings in Newport. It has been recently restored. It is open for tours (donations accepted). Many famous people including Queen Elizabeth and George Washington have worshipped there. The tour was quite interesting and informative. |
| Save The Bay Exploration Center 175 Memorial Boulevard, Newport, RI 02840 The Exploration Center is located on Easton's Beach. Even though the center appears small, it is packed with interactive educational exhibits. Save the Bay has a number of other events and activities devoted to understanding the ecology of the marine ecosystem and preserving it. |
