Things to do in Newport Rhode Island
Newport offers a variety of activates for families and couples. Here are just some of the things you can do.
1. See the Mansions - Newport is home to the finest collection of mansions from the gilded age. Many of these are open to the public. It can take a few days to see all of the available properties. 2. Take a boat tour of the harbor. - There are a number of tours to choose from. You can see the town and some of the main attractions from a unique perspective. 3. Visit the beach. - There are a few beaches where you can swim in the sound. 4. Stroll along the waterfront. The area along the waterfront has a collection of shops and restaurants. 5. Visit some of the historic sites. - Newport is rich in history other than the mansions. A trip to Fort Adams alone could take the better part of a day. There are art museums, nautical museums, a historic synagogue and the Tennis Hall of Fame just to start. 6. Have dinner on a train and see the area - A train leaves from Newport that serves dinner while you watch the scenery roll by. 7. Charter a sailboat - You can charter a sailboat at the wharf that will take you out for a day of ocean sailing. 8. Charter a fishing boat - You can find small boats for hire and try your luck fishing offshore. 9. Take a walk along Cliff Walk - This is a walkway along the top of the cliffs behind the mansions. It is definitely a 'must see' 10. Play a round of golf. There are a few golf courses nearby that are open to the public. Reservations are a great idea. 12. Visit the Naval War College. |
